An asbestos survey is a detailed inspection of a property to identify the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). The survey will identify the type, location, and condition of any asbestos-containing materials found within the property. There are two types of asbestos surveys: management surveys and refurbishment/demolition surveys.

• Management survey: This type of survey is typically carried out on properties that are still in use to identify any potentially hazardous ACMs. The survey will highlight any asbestos-containing materials that are damaged or likely to be disturbed, as well as provide a management plan for these materials.
• Refurbishment/demolition survey: This type of survey is carried out prior to any major renovation or demolition work to identify any potential hazard that can arise from ACMs. The survey must be thorough and will identify all asbestos-containing materials, even those that are difficult to access.
