Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring minerals that were widely used in commercial and residential buildings until the 1980s. They are prized for their insulating, soundproofing, and fireproofing properties. Unfortunately, asbestos is also a dangerous carcinogen that can cause serious health problems such as lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis, especially if the fibers are inhaled.

Because of its widespread use, most buildings constructed before the 1980s contain some form of asbestos. It is therefore essential to have an asbestos survey performed by a qualified professional to determine the presence, location, and condition of any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in the building.
