An asbestos survey is a detailed inspection of a building to determine the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). There are two types of asbestos surveys: management surveys and refurbishment/demolition surveys.

A management survey is an inspection that identifies the presence, location, and condition of ACMs that could be disturbed during normal occupancy, maintenance, or minor repairs. It's typically designed to help a building owner or manager fulfill their legal obligation to manage asbestos in their building.

A refurbishment/demolition survey is more intrusive and can only be carried out in unoccupied buildings or areas. It's required before any refurbishment or demolition work takes place and is designed to identify all ACMs within the area in question.
