Asbestos surveys are a legal requirement for any building built before 2000. They're designed to identify and assess any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) present, and provide recommendations for safe management or removal. There are two types of asbestos surveys - a management survey and a refurbishment/demolition survey.

A management survey is a non-intrusive inspection of a building or structure to locate any ACMs that could be disturbed during normal occupancy. The survey is designed to identify the location, extent and condition of any ACMs, assess the risk of exposure and recommend a management plan.

A refurbishment/demolition survey is a more intrusive survey that is required before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. It's designed to locate any ACMs that could be disturbed during the work, assess their condition and recommend safe removal procedures.
