Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in building materials during the mid-20th century. It was frequently used for its strength, insulation properties, and fire resistance. Unfortunately, asbestos can also be extremely dangerous to human health. When asbestos-containing materials become disturbed, either through damage or renovation work, they release small fibers into the air that can be easily inhaled. These fibers can cause serious respiratory illnesses, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis.
