What Are the Risks of Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in building materials and products until the late 1990s. Asbestos fibers are microscopic and can easily become airborne when disturbed or damaged, such as during renovation or demolition works. Lung Cancer

Asbestos exposure is a leading cause of lung cancer, particularly among workers who were exposed to asbestos for long periods, such as miners, insulation workers, and shipbuilders. The risks of lung cancer increase with the duration and intensity of asbestos exposure, as well as smoking.

Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, heart, or abdomen. It is almost exclusively caused by asbestos exposure, and the symptoms can take up to 40 years to develop. There is no known cure for mesothelioma, and the prognosis is often poor.
